GameWick News

Please excuse our appearances here… We are in the process of updating our website! The server we were on was being retired, and our service provider had to switch us over to a new one. In the upgrade, some things fell apart and the internet gremlins ate some of our code.

It was time for us to update the website anyhow…

New and exciting website coming soon!

Transgalactic Dice Hog Day 2020

January 25th, 2020
Dice Hog Day

The Dice Hog is shooting for the stars with this year’s Dice Hog Day 2020 celebration, which traditionally takes place February 3, the day after Groundhog Day. As his fans know, his method for determining the end of winter beats the humdrum rousing of that lesser hog, and it involves dice (which makes it instantly more fun). His method was passed down to him from his Hogfather’s Hogfather, and is not one that can be thwarted by bad weather, cloud coverage, or skittish rodentia. The full Dice Hog Day ritual is outlined below.

SQR-DHD-2020

RULES OF PLAY FOR DICE HOG DAY

On Feb 3, the day after those other hogs get it wrong, the Dice Hog rolls a pair of dice into the wild. A week later, he returns to find the dice and tabulate the results as per these instructions:

1. Dice must stay where they land for seven days, untouched.

2. On the seventh day (Feb. 10), if the dice can be located and there is no snow or ice touching them, the dice result is multiplied by two. That’s how many days of winter remain. This countdown only begins when the dice have no snow/ice on them (nobody likes cold dice). More snow may fall, but that doesn’t stop the countdown once it starts.

3. Two special rules apply to the dice roll result (it wouldn’t be very GameWicky if we didn’t have some “hot numbers”):

Snake Eyes (1,1) – Winter is officially over and you can put the snow shovels away immediately.

Boxcars (6, 6) – Uh Oh! There’s probably more snow coming. Bring dice back inside and wait for next storm. Then repeat process as if it is Feb 3 all over again.

4.  If the dice cannot be found, they have probably been stolen by those jealous old groundhogs…

Stay tuned for this year’s results!
