Oh, yes, there will be WEGS Old Skool Fantasy at Origins 2016! Here’s the info for all of you who want to swing swords and sling the lingo. Play WEGS!
FRIDAY – June 17 – 8 pm – WEGS Rifting The Jarl
Get ready to slip and slide your way through Gary Gygax’s classic module, The Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl (G2)! Here’s the twist: we are using the WEGS Old Skool Fantasy system. Fantastic heroes will be created in minutes and ready to go on a giant slaying expedition. Don’t worry about the system; just worry about the frost giants and staying alive. Rules taught – all you need is a sense of adventure to get started. Bring your lucky 2d6 and 2d10 (%), the only dice you’ll need to play WEGS. Let’s dungeon party like it’s 1978 (but with that ridiculously wacky WEGS system).
Saturday – June 18 – 8pm – Dingbitt’s Dunge O Doom
A rag-tag party of sword-n-sorcery heroes are plunged into the randomly generated dungeon run by Dingbitt, a devilish halfling rogue. His magic dungeon is chock full of treasure, traps and monsters. The deeper the party delves, the bigger the booty (and the greater the peril, of course). It is up to the heroes to decide what it shall be: fabulous trove, worthy opponents or, perhaps, just to find a way out? Priorities change fast after you leave Level 1! The session begins with a quick WEGS Old Skool Fantasy character generation. Four dice fuel the game (2d6 and 2d10) and the rules are designed for full throttle sword-n-sorcery exploits. Fun rules. Wild dice rolls. Wicked adventure!

Earlier this year, Tyler Nichols from Board Game Quest reviewed Shuffling Horror: Pittsburgh 68. He shared his thoughts on the pros and cons of our creepy little zombie game. Below are some highlights of what he enjoyed about shuffling our zombies.
“Very easy to teach to new players…”
“A great job with interweaving the theme and story…”
“Pittsburgh 68 keeps the game play for both the survivors and the zombie master enjoyable.”
“(As) the reels get longer, the game becomes much more difficult to survive.”
“Refreshing that even though the zombies on the cards are clearly the walking dead, they are not so grotesque that it’s distracting.”
Tyler’s absolutely right about our zombies. We gave them just enough creep factor without the over-the-top gore associated with later zombie films. We made sure they had that authentic “Bosco Chocolate Syrup” glow, just like they did in Night of the Living Dead!
Tyler concluded that he felt Pittsburgh 68 is “a few changes away from being great.” We were excited by this closing comment, and in a very good way: since the game’s 2012 release, we’ve been tweaking a few of the rules (such as the Survivor Draw Pile). The changes will be implemented in Roswell 51, the next game in our Shuffling Horror line. Great things are coming!

Below are links to three playing aids for Shuffling Horror: Pittsburgh 68. The Script For Beginning Play is an overview of the original Pittsburgh 68 rules (with examples of play). Since its release in 2012, some rules have been revised for Roswell 51, the second game in our Shuffling Horror line. One such rule is explained in the Survivor Draw Pile guide (pdf link below) which streamlines the start of the game. Last, but not least, is The Big Screen, a guide to setting up your tabletop for play; this is a great starting for first time Pittsburgh 68 players as it outlines the arrangement of cards for the reel.
