Roswell 51-Kickstarter News

May 23rd, 2016
GameWick News, Kickstarter

Blog-R51-SneakPeek-Robot51

We are getting ready to launch our Shuffling Horror: Roswell 51 kickstarter – it’s just a couple weeks away! While you wait, here’s a little sneak peek at our early robot designs for one of the movie’s featured heroes, R-51, the Robot. We designed him with 1950’s sci-fi movie standards in mind: he had to be big enough to fit a human actor inside. Plus, he needed to be as cool as his pals Robby the Robot, Gort, and Robot B-9, too!

Stay tuned to this channel for updates – or join the GameWick Games facebook  for up-to-the-minute news!

Pax East 2016 Postcard

May 1st, 2016
Conventions, GameWick News

PAX East is always non-stop fun and this year was no different! The Shuffling Horror Pittsburgh 68 table was rocking from opening to closing each day. Thanks to all those who played and purchased a copy. It was great making new friends and fans.

There was a lot of excitement for our soon-to-be-released Shuffle Board, the deluxe board that elevates Shuffling Horror’s cinematic vibe. I also revealed some new playing aids (like the Turning Point and Last One Standing cards). I’ll be blogging about these and other new rules that will be included in our summer release, Shuffling Horror: Roswell 51.

Join our GameWick Games Facebook page to hear about our upcoming releases.

Feel free to share this postcard with your friends
and let them know you played P68 at PAX with GameWick Games!

Pittsburgh 68 is a cinematic card-n-dice game that plays like a creepy, classic zombie movie. With each and every turn of a card, the dealt hand reveals horrible events, and players do their best to stay one step ahead of the zombie shuffle. As a group, players try to survive all four reels of the movie… but that will not be easy! To make matters worse, when players are eliminated, they are not out of the action: they shuffle back into the game as zombies in classic Living Dead style!

Dice Hog Day 2016-The Results

February 11th, 2016
Dice Hog Day

2016-Dice-Hog-Day-ResultsThis morning the Dice Hog hastily threw on his winter cap and ran out to find his dices (it’s been a week since he threw them out into the snow on Dice Hog Day). No snow was found on the dice, or anywhere near them (they must harness some type of weird solar energy).

As per the rules (found here), no snow on the dice means that they are ready to be read. This year’s results were 3 and 6. Multiplied together gives us 18 more days of winter ahead here at our top secret NJ gaming facility.

Winter ends on Feb 28.

You heard it right from the Dice Hog’s mouth!

Feb 3 – Dice Hog Day 2016

February 3rd, 2016
Dice Hog Day

Now that the groundhog has finished his silly business, let’s show him how you really roll out winter. Here at GameWick HQ, we celebrate Dice Hog Day on February 3rd, and we have our own peculiar method for predicting the end of winter.

Blog-DHD-2016On Dice Hog Day, we toss a pair of dice into the frosted terrain outside our door. When the snow finally melts, we go out and find them. The result of the dice roll predicts just how long winter is going to last. Of course, we have some house rules for how to play along…

1. Dice must stay where they land for seven days, untouched.

2. When there is no snow on them whatsoever, none, the dice results are multiplied by two. However, two special rules apply:

Snake Eyes (1,1) – Winter is officially over and you can put the snow shovels away immediately.

Boxcars (6, 6) – Uh Oh! There’s probably more snow coming. Bring dice back inside and wait for next storm. Then repeat process as if it is Feb 3 all over again.

If you cannot find your dice at all, chances are you have a groundhog nearby who will have none of this nonsense going on in his domain. Good luck getting them back!

The Intermission Shuffle (Kickstarter Update)

January 17th, 2016
GameWick News, Kickstarter

Our Shuffling Horror Shuffle Board campaign has ended: we did not fund, but we did not fail. Over the course of our 28 day campaign, over 100 backers joined our efforts. Each and every pledge kept this campaign moving forward. From the start, the Shuffle Board maintained its upward climb (right up until the clock struck midnight on its final day). We ended close to one third of our 18k goal.

A pretty amazing accomplishment for GameWick Games’ very first kickstarter campaign.

Blog-Pic-SHB-IntermissionSince its launch in late December, I’ve joked that the project was my full time job before and after my regular full time job. It was a lot of work, but not at all unexpected. There was never a lack of things to think about, plan out, and dwell upon. And there were a LOT of lessons learned along the way. The feedback I received on forums and the direct messages of our backers was very helpful, too.

One huge benefit in launching this kickstarter was that, once live, it forced me to get all the production details set and ready to roll. The plan was to deliver the Shuffle Board and all rewards within two months after funding. With the final proofs and the token samples behind me now, I’m even more prepared than before.

Alas, funding just wasn’t in the cards this time.

In film speak, this is not “The End”. We will just call this “The Intermission”. Time to head out to the lobby, grab some popcorn, and get ready for what’s next. There will be some exciting relaunch news coming soon.

I want to close by saying “Thank You” to all of our friends and fans who backed our efforts; your support has encouraged this quirky little indy game company onward. Good things are coming.

Keep on shuffling!

Larry
