System: Shuffling Horror
Shuffling pods, blobs and UFOs! The Time: 1951. The Place: Roswell. The Problem: Aliens! Cinematic thrills await in Roswell 51, a card-n-dice game that plays like a 1950s space invasion flick. As the movie plays out, survivors must watch the skies and fight for their lives as a central dealt hand of cards reveals horrible events and menacing aliens. One player commands these aliens, while all others try to thwart their efforts and stay one step ahead of the shuffle. If a player is eliminated, they don’t stop playing–they just beam back into the game as a pod person. Just who will be the last one standing when the screen fades to black? Roswell 51 is the second release in GameWick’s Shuffling Horror line.

System: Shuffling Horror
Slow moving zombies rule! The Time: 1968. The Place: Pittsburgh. The Problem: Zombies! Thrills and chills await in Pittsburgh 68, a card-n-dice game that plays like a creepy, classic zombie movie. With each passing turn, a central card pool reveals the movie’s horrid events and ravenous zombies. Players do their best to stay one step ahead of the zombie shuffle as they face an ever growing zombie problem (which they might end up being a part of). When a player is eliminated, they are not out of the game… they just shuffle back as a zombie in classic Living Dead style! Just who will be the last one standing when the screen fades to black? Pittsburgh 68 is the first release in GameWick’s Shuffling Horror line.

Shuffling Horror awaits! Have some fun at our Roswell 51 sneak peek party and play one of our Shuffling Horror games: Roswell 51 or Pittsburgh 68. This cinematic card-n-dice game system pits one player against all others. The Master of Horror controls the movie and the monsters, while all other players try to survive the four reels of the horror flick. In Roswell 51, the survivors face a terrifying alien invasion. In Pittsburgh 68, they face an ever-growing zombie horde. The terror grows as players are eliminated and then join the monster side. Equal parts strategy and luck, Shuffling Horror plays out like a classic horror movie experience. Just who will be the last one standing when the screen fades to black?

NO-ROLL-ARK-KARDThat Old Skool Dunge O Doom
System: WEGS Old Skool Fantasy RPG
A rag-tag party of sword-n-sorcery heroes are plunged into the randomly generated dungeon run by Dingbitt, a devilish halfling rogue. His magic dungeon is chock full of treasure, traps and monsters. The deeper the party delves, the bigger the booty (and the greater the peril, of course). It is up to the heroes to decide what it shall be: fabulous trove, worthy opponents or, perhaps, just to find a way out? Priorities change fast after you leave Level 1! The session begins with a quick Old Skool Fantasy character generation. Four dice fuel the game (2d6 and 2d10) and the rules are designed for full throttle sword-n-sorcery exploits. Fun rules. Wild dice rolls. Wicked adventure!

Going Old Skool: Gary Con 2015

February 10th, 2015
Conventions, GameWick News, Gary Con, News

It’s time to polish the old battle axe, tighten that chainmail skirt, and pack those potions: we’re getting ready for our trek to the kingdom of the Gygax! That’s right, GameWick Games is heading to GaryCon VII in Lake Geneva, WI (March 26-29)! Lake Geneva is THE place where Dungeons & Dragons got its start and the home of the game’s creator, Gary Gygax. Both TSR Games (the original publishers of D&D) and Gen Con (now the largest tabletop gaming convention in the US) were started here by Gary as well. This convention is held in Gary’s memory and is a celebration of his life and works.

FB-Gary-Con1

Like Gandalf the Grey, Gygax took us on an unexpected journey to a fantasy world where we could create heroic characters, swing swords, cast spells, and meet dragons head on.

This is our second Gary Con. For our WEGS Old Skool Fantasy events this year, we will be once again rifting on Gary’s classic adventure module, Keep on the Borderlands (1979). This is a module that you can never run too many times! We even have a special event called A Plump Half Dead Merchant and His Wife which is based on a few trapped characters Gygax placed in this dungeon module.

Con attendees will also find a few of our own wickedly fun adventures on the menu: Elf Walks Into A Bar, Dingbitt’s Dunge O Doom, and Just How Many Heroes Does It Take To Slay A Dragon? (Part 2). We ran Part I at Gary Con last year – the dragon was not slain and will be back with a vengeance!

For players who don’t know what WEGS Old Skool Fantasy is all about, that is no problem! Rules will be taught at each session. This sword-n-sorcery system was inspired from the basic Dungeons and Dragons rule set (1979), and focuses on easy character creation and all-out dungeon adventure. WEGS, the Wickedly Errant Game System, revels in unfettered heroic action and dramatic dice rolls.

Join us for some wicked adventure in the place where it all began!

Come celebrate “a life well played” at Gary Con.

Come celebrate the life of Gary Gygax.

Feb 3 – Dice Hog Day!

February 2nd, 2015
Dice Hog Day

Greeting GameWick-ers!

Put that groundhog back in his hole and celebrate Dice Hog Day instead!

FB-DiceHog-Day-2015

Here at GameWick HQ, we celebrate Dice Hog Day on February 3rd. We’ve started our own little tradition for winter prediction by tossing a pair of dice into the frosty wasteland outside our door. When the snow finally melts, we go out and find them. The result of the dice roll predicts just how long winter is going to last. Of course, we have some house rules for how to play along…

1. Dice must stay where they land for seven days, untouched.

2. When there is no snow on them whatsoever, none, the results are read as follows:

Snake-eyes: Woo Hoo! Winter is officially over and you can put the snow shovels away.

Boxcars (two sixes): Uh Oh! There’s probably more snow coming. Bring dice back inside and wait for next storm. Then repeat process as if it is Feb 3 all over again…

All Other Results: Multiply the dice total by 2. This is the number of days until spring.

And that’s how we roll out winter in these parts…

GameWick Games Shuffles the Horror

October 23rd, 2014
News, Press Release

-A GameWick Games Press Release-

GameWick Games, an indie board game company based in New Jersey, celebrates this Halloween season with  Shuffling Horror Week, a week long series featuring their zombie card game, Pittsburgh 68: A Game of Shuffling Horror. From October 25th through Halloween, Larry Wickman, the game’s designer and the company’s Chief Gaming Officer, will be running the game at local game and comic shops.

(The schedule of store visits can be found here.)SQR-Store-P68-Red-Zombies

Released in the fall of 2012, Pittsburgh 68 has been steadily shuffling into game shops across the United States. Wickman jokes, “We’ve got zombies in stores from here to San Diego at this point!” He is currently at work on the next product in the Shuffling Horror line: Roswell 51, a mash-up of 1950’s alien invasion flicks.

But how and why did an NJ guy with a penchant for game design pick Pittsburgh as his game’s namesake?

“The title pays homage to the time and place when slow moving zombies ruled,” explains Wickman. He notes that zombie lovers get the title reference immediately, though others need to be let in on its origin: George A. Romero filmed his cult movie Night of the Living Dead in Pittsburgh in 1968. For this reason, many recognize Pittsburgh as the Zombie Capitol of the World.

PR-PIC-Blickenstaff-BMFBPThe game’s eerie artwork by Steve Blickenstaff captures the look and feel of the zombie flicks and horror comics of the late 60s. Blickenstaff is a regular featured guest artist at NJ’s Chiller Theatre Expo, where the artist and game designer met. Blickenstaff’s artwork has been seen on The Cramps Bad Music for Bad People album cover and on horror film The Deadly Spawn: Millennium Edition’s dvd cover. He has also designed artwork for the band They Might Be Giants.

The game’s title was not the only aspect of the game inspired by the silver screen: Wickman designed the game to play like a movie, too. The game is played in four reels. At the start of the game, one player is designated as the director and responsible for dealing the cards and controlling the flow of the reels. All other players begin as survivors, striving to make it to through to the end of the film. As the cards are dealt, players are confronted with horrific events, tough strategic choices, and, of course, lots and lots of zombie attacks.

Film Frame-P68-ContentsThe game packs one more twist: when the players are eliminated, they are not out of the game. In true living dead style, they begin playing as zombies and join the director’s efforts against the remaining players. Wickman says that “this an aspect of the game that zombie fans love. The game intentionally does not define a win condition. Players who make it to the end get bragging rights. They were the lucky ones!” He also warns that, true to form with the cult classic that inspired Pittsburgh 68, sometimes no one makes it out alive.

Shuffling Horror Awaits!

For more information on Pittsburgh 68,  visit GameWick Game’s website (GameWick.com) and download the free Pittsburgh 68 Starter Script which summarizes the unusual and fun rules of play. (The rules can be found here under the Free Bonus Material secion.)
