I discovered a fun review of Pittsburgh 68, A Game of Shuffling Horror written by S.W Sondheimer, a Pittsburgh-based author and blogger who stumbled upon our game at House of the Dead, a zombie themed store in the zombie capital of the world (uh… Pittsburgh, of course)!
As a self-described game lover who is not-so-good at strategy games, Sondheimer tells the tale of how Pittsburgh 68 stumbled onto their table for a game night, pulling no punches as to the games pros and cons. Not just a review of the game, the article veers off into the musings that fill the mind of a non-gamer while the gamers are busy reading the rules!

[On Strategy Games] “I don’t mind never winning, so the giant group screw-a-single-player in collaborative games, and the cut throat I’m-a-cut-your-throat mentality of PVP games, are lost on me.”
[On P68 Game Play] “And much to my surprise, I got it. Quickly. Like, within the first two rounds. I won’t claim to be a master or anything, but I definitely held my own.”
[On Rule Mongers] “Interestingly, the gamers seemed to have a bit more trouble with actual play than I did. Maybe because they were trying to process the rules. Or because they’d actually listened to them. Maybe they expected the game to be more complex based on the sheer number of rules or because they’re used to complex games. Maybe they were just thinking about it too damn hard.”

We love to hear feedback from folks who play our games. Here’s some recent feedback we received from a new WEGS Old Skool fan in Virginia:
“Some pals and I just tried a game of WEGS today. It took a bit for me to ‘digest’ the rules, but once I tried rolling up an Ark it started to fall into place. I was able to explain most of the concepts and get 4 Arks up and started in about an hour.”
“Once the action started, it didn’t stop! Dungeon exploration was quick and freestyle and the ‘innings’ concept – in fact, just about all of the concepts – fell into place quickly. Everyone enjoyed themselves tremendously.”
“It was unanimously decided that we will use WEGS for all of our dungeoncrawls in the future, it is just what we were looking for!”

“The myriad of zombie games is almost exhausting and it is hard to find one that stands out these days. Pittsburgh 68 turned out to be a rare gem, with subtle complexity and creative depth that made it quite a fun game.”
“Game play is fast and fun. If you like to tell a story or form a zombie movie storyline, this game is great. It has enough complexities to keep your attention, without being overly complex.”

The Married Gamers mention Pittsburgh 68 in their blog recap of PAX EAST 2013. We ran a quick game for them and it didn’t end well (the Zombies ruled the day). Still, as Zach notes, “It was great, tense, and ridiculous as my bat-toting athlete sprinted away from the last of the horde (only to be cut down in the final moments of the game).”
