The No Roll Hero

March 26th, 2014
News, The WEGS Fray

Just a sneak peek at our newly updated No Roll Hero character sheet. It sure looks a lot like the original Ark Kard, but can you tell what’s missing?!? And what’s that little section down in the bottom right corner called The Heroic Edge?!?

NO ROLL HERO SHEET

Answer: The INI and RANK lines are missing…

No. No. The good old WEGS system isn’t changing, folks! This is just the basic character sheet we use for our introductory games for new players. We revised it a bit since we playtested it last summer (at GenCon). The Heroic Edge is a brand-new addition and will be play-tested at GaryCon a bit. More details to follow once we get back from GaryCon!

The Ultimate Dungeon Party

March 26th, 2014
News, The WEGS Fray

Are you looking for some awesomely old skool, sword-n-sorcery heroes to spice up your home game?!? Well, the Ultimate Dungeon Party is just what you need!  The Ultimate Dungeon Party is an advanced hero deck for WEGS Old Skool play. This fifty-four card deck contains all the skills and spells for six new heroes: a holy rolling Templar;  a battle-dancing Glaivemaiden; a poisonous Sneak; a devilish Warlock; a slap-happy Monk; a mighty, mighty Dungeoneer!

In classic WEGS style, there’s no rulebook for these new characters. The skill cards tell you everything you need to know about each new Arketype. All you have to do is deal out the deck and get the party started!

WOS-UDP

Be advised, the Ultimate Dungeon Party (UDP) contains advanced characters and play best in the hands of those familiar with the WEGS system. These heroes follow the simple WEGS Old Skool core rules, but are also granted powerful system cheats, special weapons, and dangerous lore. They stand strong as individual characters, but can be played right alongside the original Old Skool heroes (Warrior, Ranger, Trickster, Mage, and Sage).

These heroes have what it takes to withstand whatever the dungeon is going to throw at ’em!

Power up your WEGS game with the Ultimate Dungeon Party!

GaryCon: The Old Skool Menu

February 5th, 2014
Gary Con, News, The WEGS Fray

GameWick Games is heading to GaryCon VI in Lake Geneva, WI (March 27-30). This is THE place where Dungeons & Dragons got its start and THE convention that honors its founding father, Gary Gygax. Both TSR Games (the original publishers of D&D) and GenCon (now the largest tabletop gaming convention in the US) were started here by Gary as well. Like Gandalf the Grey, Gygax took us on an unexpected journey to a fantasy world where we could create heroic characters, swing swords, cast spells, and meet dragons head on. If you cannot tell already, we are super excited to be attending our first GaryCon!

FB-Gary-Con1We will be running two classic dungeon modules written by Dungeonmaster Gygax: Keep on the Borderlands and Descent into the Depths of the Earth. Our WEGS Old Skool system will be used for these games. Players will also find two of our convention favorites on the menu: Dwarf Walks Into A Bar and Just How Many Heroes Does It Take To Slay A Dragon?

For players who don’t know what WEGS Old Skool is all about, that is no problem! Rules will be taught at each session. WEGS, the Wickedly Errant Game System, revels in unfettered heroic action and dramatic dice rolls. This sword-n-sorcery system was inspired from the basic Dungeons and Dragons rule set (1979), and focuses on easy character creation and all-out dungeon adventure. Unlike the D&D system, four dice alone fuel the WEGS battle frenzy: two six-sided dice and two ten-sided dice (or 2d6 and 2d10 in geek speak).

Join us for some wicked adventure in the place where it all began!

Dwarf Walks Into A Bar
Sat:8pm-12am
Swords. Sorcery. Wizards. Whatever! Anything goes in this barbarian bar room brawl!  A rag-tag assortment of adventurers are having a real slow night at the Tongue of Dung, a seedy tavern in the bad part of a town called Ikkspatt. In one dark corner, a drunken Dwarf slumbers. In the other, the Goblin chieftain Borkfu and his gang are getting rowdy. The Ogre barkeep looks like he is itching for a reason to hit something with his club. Keep one hand on your tankard and the other on your hilt, it is gonna be one of those nights. A great intro to WEGS, the Wickedly Errant Game System. A GenCon fan favorite since 2006!

Just How Many Heroes Does It Take To Slay A Dragon?
Sun:11am-1:30pm
Come join the dragon-slaying party and let’s find out! If you haven’t slain a dragon the whole con, what have you been waiting for?!?  New players are welcome to join us in this free-for-all dragon brawl. WEGS Old Skool rules will be taught.  We will wrap up character creation in minutes, declare marching order, and then bring out the fire-breathing beasty. Don’t get too attached to your characters, though… Heroes will be roasted!

Trove Roll: Staff of…

January 25th, 2014
News, The WEGS Fray, Trove Roll

Time for this week’s Trove Roll! We did these once a week in January to get this series started; we will post every other week in the coming months. Don’t want to give away too many trove items!

“After defeating a band of Bug Dwarfs guarding a sacred grotto of their dark mantis lord, the party explores the room. Five crudely carved idols of various bugs stand along the shadowy crevices of the back wall. One holds a gnarled stick in its mouth. It surely looks like something to be investigated! After much debate as to who should do this, the party’s Sage struts forward and bravely grabs it. She turns back to the others with a “that’s how I roll” gleam in her eyes. Suddenly, the jaws of the bug snap shut and a giant stone slab begins to seal the room’s only entrance. A trap has been sprung!”

So, what is that gnarly stick?!?  Why it’s a…

Staff of…FB-Trove-Roll-77

A randomly selected Mystic spell

The Kreator shuffles the Sage spell deck and draws a random card. The spell is: Fervor.

Cost: 2 spoints per use

Charges per day (d3+1)

The staff bypasses the need for casting (i.e. Sense Mystic). A successful GRACE test is required for each use. The spell functions at Level 4. Once all charges are spent and none remain in the staff, d3 charges renew at dawn and, as long as the staff remains unused, will continue to do so until the staff is fully charged. The staff cannot hold more than 4 charges.

As Fervor is the spell, this staff drains spoints – and from a 12 SQR distance! The spell functions as a normal Level 4 spell: it drains (SPS+4) spoints per use, and the  total number of spoints drained is also the percent mark that the caster gains d6 Insanity Points. The target can attempt to counter the attack with a Resist Mystic skill test (as noted in the WEGS Old Skool rulebook).

“Behold the Staff of Fervor!” shouts the Sage

(with a slightly insane gleam in her eyes).

The Random Trove Roll

January 18th, 2014
News, The WEGS Fray, Trove Roll

This year we’re hard at work on a new and exciting WEGS Old Skool rulebook. It’s long overdue and we are jamming it full of all the stuff we’ve compiled over the last six years of our convention games. It will also include a ton of topics our fans have been asking for advice on and the Dingbitt’s Dunge O Doom ruleset. It will be one mighty tome! More on all this will be leaked out in the next few months…

What we can tell you RIGHT now is that a chapter is
FB-Trove-Roll-77dedicated to trove items for your Old Skool adventures. From potions to skrowls to enchanted swords and magic rings, all sorts of goodies await!

Each trove item has a chance to be truly unique. Just like Arkreation (character creation), trove involves rolling dice to determine the quantity found and the quality of an item. A series of simple reference tables guide the player through the creation process.

As WEGS fans would expect, much hinges on the luck of the dice roll. Not all trove items are going to be grand and glorious relics of power, but, if the dice align, some pretty cool trove items will be found! A hero can get stuck with some pretty nasty cursed items, too…

To help us playtest all this out (and to give our fans a little sneak peek at what we have in the works), we’ll be doing Random Trove Roll postings on our blog. Here’s this week’s Trove Roll!

Random Trove Roll

Sheaths: (Minor Trove) A sheath is a covering to carry and secure a weapon in place. These sheaths imbue their weapons with four enchanted charges, each causing INI (RR1s) elemental wounds. Before the INI roll, a spoint may be paid to allow RR2s.

(Roll a d6 to determine the type of the sheath)

1-2      Baldric of Ice
3-4      Scabbard of Fire
5-6      Quiver of Zing (4 poison arrows)

D6 charges renew each dawn. The max charges for the sheath/weapon are four per day.

I rolled a “3” – the Scabbard of Fire is all mine!

Fan Feedback: WEGS Old Skool

December 14th, 2013
News, Reviews, The WEGS Fray

We love to hear feedback from folks who play our games. Here’s some recent feedback we received from a new WEGS Old Skool fan in Virginia:

“Some pals and I just tried a game of WEGS today.  It took a bit for me to ‘digest’ the rules, but once I tried rolling up an Ark it started to fall into place.  I was able to explain most of the concepts and get 4 Arks up and started in about an hour.”

“Once the action started, it didn’t stop!  Dungeon exploration was quick and freestyle and the ‘innings’ concept – in fact, just about all of the concepts – fell into place quickly.  Everyone enjoyed themselves tremendously.”

“It was unanimously decided that we will use WEGS for all of our dungeoncrawls in the future, it is just what we were looking for!”

Thanks for the feedback, Jeff!

We’re glad you enjoyed the WEGS system!
